Be Part of #AltElxn 2025 –Join the National Broadcast Team!

The #AltElxn 2025 project is a live, collaborative federal election night broadcast organized by
the National Campus and Community Radio Association (NCRA/ANREC). Our goal is to
bring together voices from across Canada to deliver independent, grassroots election coverage
that reflects the diversity and depth of our communities.

We’re building a six-hour national feed to be broadcast live on 20+ campus, community, and
Indigenous radio stations, featuring live analysis, local updates, interviews, panel discussions,
and cultural perspectives from coast to coast to coast.

All content will be produced remotely, with roles available for hosts, producers, reporters,
panelists, technical staff, and outreach teams. Contributors will be compensated with
honorariums ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the role and level of
involvement.

Whether you’re providing a regional update, moderating a live segment, or keeping the stream
running behind the scenes — your voice and work will help make this a truly national,
people-powered election night.

Contribute live or pre-recorded content during the #AltElxn 2025 national feed, shared across
20+ stations as a paid contributor, host, producer or technician – honorariums range between

Test Show (Required): Friday, April 26, 2025 at 1:00 PM ET

The National Campus and Community Radio Association (NCRA/ANREC) is building a
collaborative national election night broadcast: #AltElxn 2025.

We’re seeking hosts, producers, analysts, reporters, tech crew, and more to help deliver an
innovative, inclusive, and engaging federal election night program — broadcast live on over 30
community and campus radio stations across Canada.

🎙 HOSTS (East & West)
General Expectation:
Lead the national broadcast with clarity, energy, and cohesion. You guide listeners, introduce
guests, and respond to real-time results. You’re the voice of the evening.
Duties:
– Host a 3-hour shift (East: 8–11 PM ET; West: 11 PM–2 AM ET)
– Open/close shift and transitions, introduce segments
– Interview guests and moderate panels
– Deliver result updates and keep energy up
– Coordinate with producer via chat or rundown

Behind-the-Scenes:
– Participate in rundown meetings (With producers)
– Use Slack or Zoom chat to receive cues and updates
– May assist in recording PSAs or pre-show promos

Timing:
– April 26 Test Show: Full participation
– April 28: Log in 30 minutes before your shift
– At least two production meetings with key staff are expected, one before April 26th and
one after (to be coordinated at a later date)

Skills:
Broadcast presence, live improvisation, political awareness

🎛 PRODUCERS (East & West)

General Expectation:
The live show’s conductor. You keep the program on time, coordinate talent, and solve
problems in real-time while keeping it seamless for the audience.
Duties:
– Run the clock and manage all segment transitions
– Cue contributors and troubleshoot issues
– Monitor Slack/Zoom backchannel
– Keep the show flexible and flowing
– Relay timing updates to hosts and tech

Behind-the-Scenes:
– Help finalize the rundown/showclock with contributors & hosts
– Update shared show log during live broadcast
– Communicate with streaming and social teams

Timing:
– At least two production meetings with key staff are expected, one before April 26th and
one after (to be coordinated at a later date)
– April 26: Full test show participation
– April 28: Log in 30 minutes before your shift
– Be available in days prior for pre-show prep

Skills:
Live production, multitasking, leadership

CONTRIBUTORS (Analysts, Reporters, Writers, Interviewers)
General Expectation:
Bring the substance. Whether live or pre-recorded, you provide insight, voices, and analysis to
fill the show with depth and perspective.
Duties:

– Deliver at least one segment per hour (live or recorded)
– Stay ready to contribute reactively as needed
– Record or join interviews, issue roundtables, or riding updates
– Suggest interview subjects or policy themes
– Monitor your beat/region for real-time updates, sharing with the host
– Deliver a live “hit” from a key location

Behind-the-Scenes:
– Coordinate with producer on call-in times
– Engage with other contributors via backchannel
– Help identify and flag content for rebroadcast or social

Timing:
– April 26: Full test show participation (if unavailable, a small pre-recorded segment)
– April 28: 15–30 minutes before airtime
– Remain reachable during your shift

Skills:
Topical knowledge, communication, journalistic instinct

📡 TECHNICAL COORDINATOR / STREAM MANAGER
General Expectation:
You ensure the stream stays live, clear, and recorded. You are the quiet guardian of the entire
technical side of the event.
Duties:
– Manage stream routing and audio inputs
– Monitor levels and contributor audio
– Record full broadcast and backup
– Coordinate with producers for transitions
– Handle emergency cut-ins or filler playback

Behind-the-Scenes:

– Monitor Slack for tech issues
– Provide real-time feedback on levels
– Archive and label recordings

Timing:
– April 26: Lead technical setup for test show
– April 28: Log in 30 minutes before the start
– Available for setup/testing the weekend before

Skills:
Audio engineering, streaming platforms (Zoom, Twitch, Youtube, Facebook, Instagram,
Cleanfeed, OBS, etc.)

🎙 IMAGING PRODUCER
General Expectation:
You define the broadcast’s sonic identity with imaging, sweepers, and transitions that keep the
show sharp and branded.
Duties:
– Produce sweepers, IDs, segment intros/outros
– Source music beds (royalty-free or licensed)
– Provide 15/30/60/90 second interstitials
– Work with hosts/producers on tone and placement

Behind-the-Scenes:
– Share files via folder with labels
– Coordinate with Tech and Producers for delivery
– Available for last-minute adjustments if needed

Timing:
– April 25: Final delivery deadline

Skills:
Audio production, creative sound design, branding
💰 Minimum Pay: $250

📣 SOCIAL MEDIA & OUTREACH SUPPORT
General Expectation:
You’re the megaphone. Drive engagement during the show and build momentum through
scheduled posts, highlights, and retweets.
Duties:
– Post live updates during election night
– Tag contributors, partner stations, and guests
– Monitor mentions and respond to listeners
– Share the PSA campaign and stream links in advance

Behind-the-Scenes:
– Draft posts ahead of time
– Use shared doc for quotes, clips, and timing
– Coordinate with producers on featured content

Timing:
– April 26: Join 15 minutes of the test show
– April 28: 3–4 hour shift during show
– 1 hour prep/post-wrap

Skills:
Social strategy, writing, graphic/audio content creation
