NCRA/ANREC announces Halifax 2027 conference and plans for Yukon in July 2028
National gatherings will connect campus, community and Indigenous not-for-profit broadcasters across Canada
OTTAWA, October 21, 2026 — The National Campus and Community Radio Association/Association nationale des radios étudiantes et communautaires (NCRA/ANREC) is looking ahead to two national gatherings, with the 45th edition of the National Campus and Community Radio Conference (NCRC45) coming to Halifax, Nova Scotia, from June 15 to 18, 2027, followed by plans for a Yukon conference in July 2028.
The Halifax conference is expected to welcome over 100 participants from 40+ stations across Canada, bringing together station staff, volunteers, board members and sector partners to share knowledge, strengthen relationships and support the future of campus, community and Indigenous not-for-profit radio stations.
NCRC45 in Halifax will be presented by the NCRA/ANREC, with CKDU-FM serving as the local host. The program includes workshops, station tours, networking, and the Community Radio Awards in Broadcast and Online (CRABO Awards), along with opportunities to connect with broadcasters, artists, and community organizations across Canada.
“Our stations do remarkable work with limited resources, and the opportunity to learn directly from one another makes a real difference,” said Barry Rooke, Executive Director of the NCRA/ANREC. “NCRC gives people practical ideas to take home, relationships they can call on throughout the year, and time to celebrate the work happening in communities across Canada.”
The Halifax program is being developed to support the everyday needs of stations, including operations, governance, programming, journalism, technology and financial sustainability. This includes a podcasting/content creators learning opportunity. Further details about sessions, presenters, accommodations and participation will be shared as planning progresses.
The NCRA/ANREC is also advancing plans for NCRC46 in Whitehorse, Yukon, in July 2028. Exact dates, venues and travel arrangements will be announced once confirmed. This replaces the trip to the territory which was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Yukon gathering will look to strengthen connections with Northern broadcasters and offer an opportunity to learn from stations serving rural, remote and Indigenous communities. Planning will consider travel affordability, accessibility and opportunities to connect delegates with local radio, music and culture.
“Bringing our national gathering to different regions helps us better understand the communities our stations serve,” added Rooke. “Halifax and Yukon offer distinct opportunities to listen, learn and build relationships. Announcing our plans early gives stations and partners more time to prepare and explore ways to participate.”
Stations, prospective presenters, sponsors and community partners are invited to connect with the NCRA/ANREC as planning continues. Conference updates will be shared through ncra.ca and the association’s member communications. We are actively looking for partners to support the work of the conference, association and sector.
