Greetings NCRA/ANREC membership!
New Coordinator
My name is Johnny James, and I am the newly appointed Conference Coordinator for this year’s NCRC! For those of you who attended NCRC37 in Fredericton, NB, I held the same position for that conference, working with CHSR-FM’s team, a station where I was a member for several years! I’m currently operating out of my hometown of Pictou County, NS and will be your primary liaison for all your festival FAQs (once I get up to speed) both in the lead-up and during the conference once we all get together in June!
Conference Details
We are excited to remind people that this year’s National Campus and Community Radio Conference (NCRC42) in Sydney, Nova Scotia will be running from June 11th to 14th! We’ll have our traditional welcome event on the evening of the 11th, sessions will run from the 12th to 14th, and the awards gala will close the conference on the evening of the 14th.
Travel
We are also considering hosting an event in the Halifax area on the 10th and providing shuttle transportation for any delegates arriving through the Halifax airport. If this is your plan and you would be interested in a pre-conference event, please email ncrc@ncra.ca. More details to come.
Accommodations & Conference Space
Will be announced shortly, but we are in downtown Sydney. We are confirming our preferred hotel rate and discounts.
Travel Funding
If you want to apply for NCRA/ANREC’s travel funding grant via the Community Radio Fund of Canada, please complete the form before March 15th, 2024.
What can you expect:
4 days of amazing learning and networking opportunities. The conference is fast-paced (3 concurrent sessions), including daily Lunch and our national awards (the CRABOS) on Friday the 14th (The last day to apply for CRABOS is March 1st). We have evening events to be announced, including our welcome party on June 11th. We understand that Cape Breton can be a bit challenging for travel, and we are trying to find some travel opportunities from Halifax or other regional spots. (However, there is an airport in Cape Breton).
Registration: Registration will be coming soon! So start thinking about who from your station would like to attend! Price point will be around $300/person and include lunch and tickets to the CRABO awards.
Presenting at NCRC42
Finally, NCRA/ANREC is calling for presentation proposals to encourage presenters to share their knowledge and expertise in broadcasting, campus and community radio, and community building within the sector. We are looking for presenters who will stimulate conversation, engage the audience and expand the conference’s scope and depth of learning.
If you want to present at this year’s conference, please consider applying to our Call For Proposals here. The deadline to submit is March 20th.
Want to host NCRC44?
Applications to host NCRC44 (2026) are open until May 15th, 2024. Please see this flier and contact barry@ncra.ca with any questions. Note the preferred location is “central”, i.e. between Montreal and Regina.
Lots more to come, but get excited and prepare your travel to the gorgeous community of Cape Breton (Sydney, that is).
